As the New Year begins I release all negative thoughts and feelings. I welcome exciting new changes, new adventures and new opportunities. Every day is a new beginning, a new adventure, renewed hope and a chance to make changes in your life. You must let go of yesterday, its the past you can't go back. All you can is go forward, so forget yesterday. Embrace today and envision tomorrow. The New Year stands before us, like a chapter in a book, waiting to be written. We will do our best to fill all the pages with positive things, beautiful places, new friends and wonderful suprising experiences.

Finally arrived a long-waited letter from Russia, Junior Champion diploma for Ramses. It was our weekend in Kaliningrad, where Ramses got his JCAC. So it's always great to have good news at the end of the year. Waiting for the new year, because who knows what's going to happen then.

What a great weekend in Liepaja, Latvia. We were so much hoping to see our friends in Latvia and sometimes we are just very lucky. Beautiful Hanna Solo Rigoletto was BOB on Saturday and Ramses is such a gentleman, that he thinks Hanna should have been BOB also on Sunday. Well it was so nice to see friends here in Liepaja. Unfortunately we heard some sad news and that just shows, that there are more important things in life than just dog shows. We know the feeling, when you lose a family member. Just remember, that everyone who touches our heart stayes there forever.

6.12.2017 The Northern Forts, Liepaja Latvia

The forts are a unique monument, built in 1893. Having been slowly eaten away by time and the sea, the old forts are now partially buried by dunes and some tumble into the sea. The underground bunkers are impressively extensive and quite unlike anything else in the world.

In November 1908 the fortress was liquidated, as its construction had been acknowledged a fiasco and strategic mistake. When it turned out that the fortress was of no strategic importance, some of the cannons in the complex were dismantled, melted down, or taken to the Kaunas fortress in Lithuania.

There were attempts to blow up the underground bunkers and armoury, but these were unsuccessful, and therefore they remain visible to this day. As you climb on top of and wander through the ruins of the fort, the wild waves of the Baltic Sea against the concrete might make you think you're by an ocean instead.

6.12.2017 Holocaust Memorial - Skede Dunes Massacre, Liepaja Latvia

The name "Skede" is as well as known to the whole world as Bikernieki and Rumbula - the places of extermination of Latvian Jews. An obelisk was erected in Skede in the beginning of the 60's to commemorate mass executions of the Soviet prisoners of war, Liepaja Jews, and other civilians. There, in the dunes of Skede on the Baltic Sea shore, the History of a 150 year old Liepaja (Libau) Jewish Community recorded its darkest events. The pre-war Jewish community numbered over nine thousand people, a considerable part of Liepaja population. During WWII more than nineteen thousand people were murdered; they were shot and thrown into ditches.
Remember, it didn't start with gas chambers. It started with politicians dividing people with "us vs them". It started with intolerance and hate speech and when people stopped caring, became desensitized and turned a blind eye.

At the end of Peldu Street are Latvia's largest drums - one of the objects of Liepāja's environmental design which reminds one that Liepaja is the music capital of Latvia.

4.12.2017 Zuvintas Lake Nature Trail, Lithuania

If you want to become better acquainted with the pride of southern Lithuania's nature, Zuvintas Lake, take a walk along the Zuvintas hiking trail. A 350 meter long boardwalk with an observation tower allows one to observe the shores of Zuvintas Lake. And from spring until fall you can study the great world of birds and various species.

Exactly one year ago we visited Alytus with Ramses and then he became Lithuanian Junior Champion. Now one year later Ramses gets his final CAC so he will now become a Lithuanian Champion. So what a weekend, just superb and perfect. We are so happy.

Our third and this weekend's final visit to Kavine Alka. We enjoyed very delicious food with dessert, so after this it was great to start our journey back to home. Normally on a dog show weekend, at some point we are having terrible headaches due to lack of food. This weekend no headaches, so thank you Kavine Alka. Cafe „Alka“ was opened in July in 1972. The interior and the exterior nowhere else as it is in „Alka“. Alka means the altar of archaic lithuanian‘s gods.

Cafe „Alka“ was built by the clerk of the works J.Cesnavicius, furnishing was made by the forester V.Urnevicius.

We enjoyed very delicious food and the prices are cheap, with drinks and desserts every day from 20 to 25 euros for two person. Very friendly and excellent service. http://www.kavinealka.lt

3-6.8.2017 Hotel Simple, Druskininkai Lithuania

Guests are welcome to cook their own meals in an on-site kitchen with a stove, an oven and kitchenware. There is a spacious dining room to enjoy meals in. Spacious room with private bathroom, electric kettle and a large refridgerator. No breakfast service. We filled the fridge, so we had an excellent breakfast and supper. We would not call this place as a hotel, but it has everything you need for a weekend stay. There is a great park close by, where you can walk your dogs. Be sure to park your car in a secure place in the parking place. There is CCTV, but with many blind spots.

3.8.2017 Gruto Park, Druskininkai Lithuania

To date, no other museum or cultural institution has endeavoured to collect or duly exhibit Soviet relics.

Grutas Park is situate on a 20 ha area, exhibiting 86 works by 46 authors. Such a large concentration of monuments and sculptures of ideological content in a single out-door exposition is a rare and maybe even unique phenomenon in the world.

In Grutas Park, monumental sculptures are positioned in a 2 km-long exposition, where guard towers, fragments of concentration camps and other details resemble Siberia.

The aim of this exposition is to provide an opportunity for Lithuanian people, visitors coming to Lithuania as well as future generations to see the naked Soviet ideology which suppressed and hurt the spirit of Lithuanian nation for many decades.

Young visitors are also amused by the inhabitants of the mini-zoo located in the park – featuring birds and animals like bears etc.

There is also a cafe with excellent menu with nostalgia extras. Dishes are prepared according to traditional regional recipes, and according to modern recipes. Grutas park style and its mood is reflected in “Soviet” menu: “po ruski”, cutlets “proscaj molodost“, cocktail “elnio akis”.

Grizulo offers a modern-style countryside retreat 10 km outside Marijampole city centre.

This eco-friendly accommodation features relaxing facilities, including jacuzzi and sauna, as well as free Wi-Fi and free private and video monitored parking.

When we arrived to this beautiful Hotel the kitchen was closed earlier, so we had to eat fast food in nearby Hesburger. They didn't inform us anyting about paying more in breakfast. As you can see our breakfast, both of us had only one small bread (with 3 marmalades and 4 cheeses and some salami) and we hardly ever eat bread. So after extremely spacious and comfortable room and very quiet and beautiful location, such a pathetic breakfast. Would recommend highly if you just remember to pay more for a decent breakfast. And maybe the restaurant offers good food, if you just arrive earlier.

Pazaislis monastery and church form the largest monastery complex in Lithuania, and the most magnificent example of Italian Baroque architecture in the country.

Amazing architectural complex is situated in fascinating Kaunas Lagoon Regional Park. That perfect place is surrounded with enchanting forest and separated from dusty city life.

Church of Blessed Virgin Mary was composed as the heart of charming architectural complex. High ceilings and wonderful murals enhance the sense of sanctity and greatness there.

Raudone Castle is a residential castle. Bayersburg II Castle, an old Teutonic castle, stood here until the 16th century. The tower is open to public as an observation tower of Nemunas valley.

Ventaine is set on the shore of the picturesque Curonian Lagoon. Guests can enjoy hiking in the area and park their car on the free parking on site. Unfortunately this place is not a very dog friendly place, but very beautiful location.

So calm and serene and beautiful. And it is true, what they say. calm before storm. Next night storm and lightnings. Total darkness, and the lightnings illuminates the sky so bright, that you could see the Curonian Spit on the other side.

When you have these kind of moments and such a picturesque place, you just have to take a photo.

1.8.2017 Vente Cape - Vente Horn, Lithuania

Vente Cape, sometimes referred to as Vente Horn, is a headland in Nemunas Delta, located in Silute district, Lithuania. It is known as a rest place for many birds during their migrations, particularly the autumn migration. One of the first bird ringing stations in Europe, still in operation, was opened here by Tadas Ivanauskas in 1929.

The Cape, being in the former Memel Territory, was part of Germany until 1919. The Teutonic Knights erected a castle here, called Windenburg, but it no longer exists. There is an 11-metre-high lighthouse, built in 1863 during the Prussian period, though currently it is not in use.

1.8.2017 Monument for "Neptune's victims", Vente Lithuania

On the Curonian lagoon coast, a monument has dedicated to the non-returning from the lagoon. In order to honor all those who became victims of Neptune. The inhabitants of the Venta can tell a story of how their relatives or neighbors did not return from fishing. They were killed in the floods of the gorgeous lagoon. Most bodies subsequently returned to the landlords, but there were those who forever remained in the estates of the lord Neptunas.

The swing bridge is manually rotated by a couple of dockworkers. Yachts and small ships then pour from castle moat into the Danė river and vice-versa.

31.7.2017 Sculpture "The Black Ghost", Klaipeda Lithuania

Near the castle remains, just past the swing bridge, there is a bronze sculpture of a ghostly silhouette that looks like it is just stepping out of the water via the shore line. 2.4 metres in height, the sculpture holds its own secret - everyone who comes near the frightful sculpture will be greeted by it. According to one legend, in 1595, one of Klaipėda Castle guards, Hans von Heidi, saw a ghost. The mystical visitor warned the guard that the city’s supplies of grain and timber may be running out, and with that, it vanished just as it had appeared.

31.7.2017 The first legendary motorcyclist sculpture, Klaipeda Lithuania

Antanas Poska (1903 – 1992) was a prominent Lithuanian traveler and anthropologist. He is best known for his journey to India in 1929–36, which he traveled with motorcycle. He was recognized as the Righteous Among the Nations for hiding three Lithuanian Jews during the Holocaust in Lithuania. Despite Nazi orders to destroy Jewish books he concealed and preserved over 1,000 publications which were later transferred to the Jewish Museum. After the Soviet takeover in 1945, he refused to destroy books deemed unacceptable to the Soviet regime and was imprisoned in a Gulag. Unable to return to Lithuania, Poska later worked at several museums in Central Asia. He was allowed to return to Lithuania in 1959. By age 60, he had visited 75 countries and 120 nations.

30.7.2017 Ferry ride over the Curonian Lagoon, Lithuania

We had a free ferry ride from Smiltyne to Naujoji, crossed the Curonian Lagoon.

30.7.2017 Amber Bay, Juodkrante Lithuania

In 1855, while canalizing the waterway near Juodkrante, the workers discovered amber in the silt soil. The first person to start the works of organized excavation of mud from the bottom of the Lagoon for amber search was former miller, owner of ships, later Klaipeda innkeeper Vilhelmas Stantynas. The amber excavated from the Lagoon’s bottom had to be cleaned and separated from admixtures. From 1860 till 1890, approximately 75 thousand kilograms of amber on the average per year were excavated. Having the amber mining declined, in 1890, the excavation works contract was not renewed, therefore, the excavation works in Juodkrante were terminated.

The Curonian Spit is a 98 km long, thin, curved sand-dune spit that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea coast. The northern 52 km long stretch of the Curonian Spit peninsula belongs to Lithuania, while the rest is part of the Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia. The width of the spit varies from a minimum of 400 m in Russia (near the village of Lesnoy) to a maximum of 3,800 m in Lithuania (just north of Nida).It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site shared by the two countries.

30.7.2017 Terrible traffic jam, Kaliningrad Russia

On sunday we started driving to Russian-Lithuanian border trying to get to the Curonian Spit. OMG 15 kilometers over 3 hours, and at the beginning of this traffic jam to the border 65 kilometers. It was very hot hot day, so we kept the doors open almost all the time. We didn't know anything, like where all these cars are going to. On Curonian Spit we discovered the answer. These families were driving over 3 hours to park their car beside the road (no mather where) and then they walked through the forest to the beach. Unbelievable, but unfortunately the truth. In addition to this we had to pay before the border, on the border and after the border. So many extra payments, which we didn't know anything in advance. Not a lot of money in total, but what the hell happens here. In Finland, if we want to go to beach, we just drive about 15 minutes and go to the beach. Always space for parking, no payments, just enjoy the time and beach.

30.7.2017 Fort number 11 "Dönhoff", Kaliningrad Russia

The fortifications of the former East Prussian capital Königsberg now Kaliningrad. The fortress was supplemented from 1874 to 1885 by a ring comprising 11 forts, another two intermediate works and a 12th fort were added between 1887 and 1890. The system was consolidated up to the outbreak of the First World War with 280 chambers (infantry, artillery, machine gun and accommodation positions), 9 support points and 25 sconces and several outposts along the Lauther position to the north-east. We visited one of these huge fortifications and almost lost in these neverending tunnels.

Border crossing Grzechotki-Mamonowo (Poland-Russia). Suprisingly fast crossing. Not our first time going to Russia, so no difficulties filling the documents. Our gps maps ended here, so after this we used our mobile phone gps app for navigation.

Elblag Canal is a canal in Poland, in Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, 80.5 km in length, which runs southward from Lake Drużno to the river Drwęca and lake Jeziorak. It can accommodate small vessels up to 50 tons displacement. The difference in water levels approaches 100 m, and is overcome using locks and a remarkable system of inclined planes between lakes. Today it is used mainly for recreational purposes. It is considered one of the most significant monuments related to the history of technology and was named one of the Seven Wonders of Poland. Today no vessels on dry land, but very interesting and beautiful place to visit.

27.7.2017 Stutthof concentration camp, Sztutowo Poland

Stutthof concentration camp built in a secluded, wet, and wooded area near the small town of Sztutowo (German: Stutthof) 34 km east of the city of Gdańsk in the former territory of the Free City of Danzig. The camp was set up around already existing structures after the invasion of Poland in World War II, used for the imprisonment of Polish intelligentsia. The actual barracks were built in the following year by hundreds of prisoners enslaved in specialized commandos. Stutthof was the first camp outside German borders, in operation from 2 September 1939, and the last camp liberated by the Allies on 9 May 1945. More than 85,000 victims died in the camp out of as many as 110,000 inmates deported there.

27.7.2017 Battle of Hell - Hel, Poland

The Hel Fortified Area was a set of Polish fortifications, constructed on the Hel Peninsula in northern Poland, in close proximity to the interwar border of Poland and the Third Reich. It was created in 1936, upon a decree of President Ignacy Moscicki. It covered most part of the peninsula, and during Polish September Campaign, it was the last place of Poland to surrender to the invading Wehrmacht (Battle of Hel). During World War II, the naval base in Hel was used as a major training facility for U-boat crews. We went to the woods in Hel. We discovered these tunnels, which connects artillery batteries.

Aerial photos: www.szczyptaswiata.com.pl. Hel Peninsula is a 35-km-long sand bar peninsula in northern Poland separating the Bay of Puck from the open Baltic Sea. The width of the peninsula varies from approximately 300 m near Jurata, through 100 m in the most narrow part to over 3 km at the tip. Since the peninsula was formed entirely of sand, it is frequently turned into an island by winter storms. Until the 17th century the peninsula was a chain of islands that formed a strip of land only during the summer. A road and a railroad run along the peninsula from the mainland to the town located at the furthest point, Hel. We drove through a hellish traffic jams to get this place, which goes nowhere but Hel.

At the end of the 19th century the city of Kaunas was fortified and by 1890 was encircled by eight forts and nine gun batteries.The 9th Fort retains it numerical name from the days when it was indeed the ninth part of a series of forts that together formed a whole ring of fortifications around the city of Kaunas. Collectively these were called Fortress Kaunas. During the years of Nazi occupation, the Ninth Fort was put to use as a place of mass murder.

21.7.2017 August Maramaa and his dog NEFF, Viljandi Estonia

August Maramaa (1881–1941) was an Estonian politician and the legendary mayor of Viljandi. The bronze statue of Maramaa with his dog Neff near the Viljandi town Hall was opened in 2007. During the reign of August Maramaa (1919-1939) Viljandi grew and developed extremely fast. Many parks, new streets and new city districts were founded. A stadium, a hotel, the new town hall, four schools, a hospital, a beach pavilion and a suspension bridge in the castle hills were built during his time in Viljandi. August Maramaa was arrested by the Soviet authorities in 1941 and he died in the same year in a Russian prison camp.

Carl Robert Jakobson was one the most important public figures during the Estonian Period of Awakening as well as a columnist, writer, teacher and founder of the Viljandi County newspaper 'Sakala'. The statue was erected in 1998 to mark the 157th anniversary of Jakobson’s birth. It was sculpted by Mati Karmin. Jakobson's importance in the history of the Estonian people was reflected in the fact that he was depicted on the Estonian 500-kroon bank note.

The folk myth says that the Witch's Well begins to overflow when the witches of Tuhala whisk themselves inside the well. This periodically rising spring overflows during times of high-water. At a depth of 2.4 m deep, the 'Well's' brownish water overflows at a speed of 100 litres per second. As the surrounding river's rate of flow is at least 5,000 litres per second, this creates an effect that is one of the most unique natural phenomena in Europe. Voted by the public as the Wonder of Estonia in 2012, the wondrous beauty of the Tuhala Witch's Well is a phenomenon that occurs for a day, or up to three weeks.

8.7.2017 Statue of Raimond Valgre, Pärnu Estonia

The musician Raimond Valgre who played in Pärnu in 1930s and brought the town a lot of fame, can today be found sitting in the park near Kuursaal, as a bronze statue. The author of the statue is Rait Pärg. You too can sit down next to the beloved Estonian composer and enjoy his beautiful compositions.

Gustav Faberge (1814–1893) was a jeweller, born in Pärnu and later active in St. Petersburgh, who founded the House of Faberge. His son Peter Carl Faberge became a world-renowned jeweller, primarily famous for his precious metal Easter eggs that were encrusted with generous amounts of jewels. In addition to the Russian czar, all European royals ordered his masterpieces. Faberge eggs can also be seen on the wonderful paintings of Tiina Ojaste, an artist from Pärnu.

A 600 m hiking trail with a viewing platform, which stands right by the sea in the middle of the Pärnu beach, was constructed for visitors to be able to explore the unique ecosystem of the city. The visitors can walk above the backwaters and look for unique protected plants. The trail that rises gradually is pram and wheelchair accessible for everyone to enjoy the outdoors.

We just like to encourage every dog owner to go out on these kinds of events with your dog. This is really good training for everyone, and really it's fun. The height of the limestone cliff at the top of the Pakri peninsula is 24–25 m. Black guillemot, quite unique in Estonia, lives in the cracks of the Cliff.

'Young man on bicycle listening to music' - Pyöräilijäpoika kuuntelee musiikkia. This sculpture was inspired by Arvo Pärt himself, from a time when he was cycling on Market Square (now Central Square) listening to the radio programmes and music being broadcast from a speaker on top of a telephone post. The broader message of the sculpture is that every child can become a well-known and respected composer, scientist or representative of any profession.
